It doesn’t matter how much you have.  What you do with what you have that matters...”

About the Chip Hoosier Memorial Tournament

Chip Hoosier was an Indianapolis Yellow Cab Taxi driver who was slain on August 2, 2006 while driving his taxi on the Eastside of Indianapolis. Chip was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was Deacon at his church and Administrator of the former St. Philips/St. Bridget Food Pantry. In honor of his memory the pantry was renamed “The Clarence “Chip” Hoosier Food Pantry”. Currently the pantry is administered by Chip’s wife.

Every second Saturday of the month Chip’s family, his church families and members of the community come together to prepare and distribute food. The Food Pantry Ministry serves the low-income and senior citizens surrounding the historic Indiana Avenue area. The ministry reaches more than 135 households each month. People benefiting from the outreach include elderly, handicapped, homeless, and families. The pantry also receives periodic requests for food from people in need who live in the out-lying areas of Indianapolis. There is currently a waiting list of approximately 20 families. The shelves are stocked with foodstuffs donated by individual parishioners, and with cost effective purchases from Gleaner’s and Aldi’s.

In 2007, the Hoosier family, Indianapolis Yellow Cab and Woodland Bowl organized the 1st Chip Hoosier Memorial Bowling Tournament to benefit the Food Pantry. Half of each entry fee (both competitive and non-competitive) is donated toward the operating fund of the Food Pantry.
